Helen Wilkinson

Helen began bobbin lace making many years ago, attending classes in Chesham and learning the traditional techniques of Torchon, Bedfordshire, Bucks and Honiton, before beginning to experiment with designing her own pieces. After a long break, she returned to lace making in 2020 and found that attending a weekend course in Missenden with fellow lace makers ‘felt like coming home’.

Helen enjoys learning new lace techniques to experiment with, attending courses with British, Belgian and American lace tutors. She recently completed a foundation certificate in art and design with West Dean College and now seeks ways to apply the approaches she learnt to her textile art.

Helen likes to explore the transparent quality of lace through layering and is particularly interested in contrasts between simplicity and intricacy.
