Rosemary Green
Rosemary learnt to make lace in the late 1960’s and it has continued to fascinate her ever since. Traditional English techniques for bobbin lace were learnt first but horizons were greatly expanded when she was offered the opportunity to become a Guinea Pig for the first City and Guilds exams for lacemakers. For this she tried out many more laces including needlelace and other non bobbin techniques.
Today Rosemary enjoys exploring the whole range from finest Binche to larger panels and wearable items in both traditional and contemporary styles. The group challenges stretch the mind in many ways though not always in comfort.
In the 21st century Rosemary took up silversmithing and uses fine handmade lace to create textures on sterling silver which is then used to create individual items of jewellery to be worn. She is still exploring different ways of using the many snowflake variations found in Binche to produce more contemporary, large scale pieces which can be worn, both as jewellery and clothing
She enjoys creating items suitable for festive occasions, such as table decorations and tree ornaments. Scarves worked in laceweight yarn or combining silk fabric and threads are a continuing pleasure. At present her head is thinking about the possibilities in lace for the next 98Lace exhibition as the theme has already been agreed. No chance of getting bored!
